How to fix Windows 10 Settings search not displaying results

There's nothing more frustrating than a convenient feature failing you when you need it most. Some users, for whatever reason, find that the search function in the Settings window won't display results.

Luckily, fixing this problem should only take a few minutes. Here's how to re-index your Settings folders and get back to the search Windows 10 intended.

  1. Press the Windows key and R key simultaneously to open the Run window.
  2. Type %LocalAppData%\Packages\windows.immersivecontrolpanel_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState into the Open: field.
  3. Click OK.

  4. Right-click the Indexed folder.
  5. Click Properties.

  6. Click Advanced.
  7. Click the checkbox beside Allow files in this folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties so that a checkmark appears.

  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Apply.

  10. Click OK. A window with a progress bar will pop up as the folder is indexed.
  11. Click OK when the indexing progress is finished.
